Building Node.js on Windows: The Visual Studio Command Prompt

If you use vcbuild.bat to build Node.js on Windows, you may receive an error message and a suggestion that you use the VS command.

If you do not have Visual Studio, you will have to install the free VISUAL C++ 2010 EXPRESS. Don’t be tempted by the other Express product offers, you’ll only be wasting your time.  The C++ version is the application you need.

Once installed, click through Start >  All Programs > Microsoft Studio Visual C++ 2010 > Visual Studio Command Prompt (2010).  This basically is the cmd prompt, with specific environment variables set.
